Custom Construction is evolving …

Our family have proudly been running Custom Construction for over 10 years and are well known within the construction industry for the high quality of commercial construction and fit-outs we produce, the excellent working relationships we have with our customers and suppliers and the ability to deliver on our promises.

In a sometimes difficult industry, keeping these promises has not always been easy.  In order to move forward with a profitable and sustainable business model we have decided to streamline the way we run our business.  Primarily, this will involve using a key team of contractors on each job, led by our highly qualified and experienced management team. 

Primarily, Custom Construction will continue to do business as we always have, with a commitment to providing a fair price, while maintaining our high standards and achieving the objectives of our customers.

Secondly, we feel the time and money spent actively competing for new business would be better spent building stronger relationships with our customers and retaining our award-winning level of build and fit-out.  Our new ethos is all about collaboration, working with people who value the work we do and want to build strong relationships on new projects. 

 

Thirdly, we are passionate about focussing solely on our core business areas of project management, core steel buildings, custom fitout’s and technically challenging projects.  These are the areas where we thrive as a business.

We feel these changes are a hugely positive step for Custom Construction and have received great support from the people in our industry.  We are confident by streamlining the way we do business we can build better relationships with our valued customers and suppliers and provide a more sustainable future for our employees.

THE TEAM

We are a family-run business with a core team of experienced management and administration staff who support our highly skilled team of construction workers.

We pride ourselves on our expertise and experience in all aspects of construction.  This, combined with our knowledge of the Taranaki region, has established us as a major player in the industry.  Our commitment to innovation, professionalism and excellence invariably results in a successfully completed project for both the contractor and client. We are passionate about working in collaboration with our clients to ensure their goals are met.

Our core areas of business are project management, core steel buildings, custom fitout’s and technically challenging projects. We carry out all projects with professionalism, on time and on budget.

We're committed to using qualified and certified local builders who take pride in using their skills to complete projects on time and as quoted, ensuring the entire construction process is hassle-free for our clients.

Nathan is the man in charge and the backbone behind Custom Construction. He has worked passionately over the past 10 years to grow the business and its solid reputation.

Nathan has over 20 years’ experience in the building industry including residential and commercial building. He is a Qualified Carpenter, Licensed Building Practitioner and Homestar Assessor. Overseeing all Custom Construction projects, his key focus is on maintaining client and designer confidence.

Nathan is an ambassador for positivity and never fails to go the extra mile for his clients or team. His ability to deliver on his promises and his easy-going nature have seen him highly liked and respected across the region.

Karen is co-owner of Custom Construction and a strong driving force behind its growth and success. Karen and Nathan also own David Reid Homes Taranaki and Pool HQ. Karen is Canadian born but now proudly a dual citizen of New Zealand and Canada.

Karen looks after HR, marketing and admin at Custom Construction. She is passionate about her excellent team and the great clients and suppliers she gets to work with.  Karen is a real people person and always has time for everyone. She particularly loves being able to give back to the community which the success of the business has made possible.

Carl believes great communication is the key to team success. Since joining Custom Construction in 2015 Carl has earned great respect from his foreman and staff due to his extensive knowledge of the building industry and his highly organised and thoughtful execution of projects.

Carl is a qualified carpenter with over 20 years building experience and is currently finishing his Quantity Surveyor certification. Carl continues to drive operational leadership and is extremely passionate about each project he manages.

Carl is a great team player and communicator and never struggles to get the job done. He is constantly motivated to surpass and exceed the expectations of our clients.

Megan joined Custom Construction in 2018 as our Office Manager before becoming Contracts Manager in 2020. Prior to joining us at Custom Construction, she was in administrative roles for 10 plus years. Her experience is wide and vast. She has provided general administration duties along with all debtor/creditor processes, month/year end financial returns, Payroll, all IRD tax filings, new staff contracts and annual Staff reviews, Debt collection, create manage and update databases with  personal/financial/health & safety information.

Her knowledge of the Contracts Act 2002 and payment claims (including retentions) has been invaluable.

Barrie joined Custom Construction in 2020 as our Project Manager. Barrie has gained a great working relationship with our staff right through to the clients to suppliers and subcontractors. Due to being in the building industry for over 28 years, his knowledge and experience has his approach to projects very organised with an eye for detail.

Barrie has extensive experience in all aspects of Project Management from the administration of contracts to management of subs through to procurement of all materials and supplies, with a hands on approach to programming of projects.

Barrie has owned his own construction business. The last 5 years he has been a Project Manager for a Construction company in the Residential sector.

Matthew has 8 years of construction industry experience. He started his career in the oil & gas sector in South Korea with having chemical engineering degree. He experienced several process plant projects located around the Middle East and Africa as a Project Engineer. His passion toward the cost relevant works brought him to study in New Zealand. From 2018, he has been studying Quantity Surveying at Massey University in Auckland.

Matthew and his wife came to New Plymouth in 2019 and fell in love with our beautiful mountain and the coast. While working at Custom Construction, he always tries to support the team to create a productive outcome.

Renee has been part of the Custom Construction team since 2020. Beginning her Office Administration career in 2016, her previous experience she has brought to the team is appreciated along with her ability to build positive relationships with the team.

Coming from a teaching back ground, it has given her the capability to multi task, provide exceptional communication and organisational skills while keeping a positive and bright attitude.

Renee is always willing to go above and beyond and will help when needed and would like to do further study to extend her knowledge of the construction industry.
